Go Kin Packs: Electricity from Walking

The need for electricity nowadays is a necessity rather than a luxury. Most possessions require power supply in order to be used. That is why portable chargers were protruding. However, these chargers are limited to the walls of the town, where external power sources are available. How about when you go hiking? Or when you are in the middle of a war?

Yes, there are the solar chargers, but those are useless during nighttime. Therefore, a new invention has been produced that you can also use for the scenarios mentioned.

Bill Ostrom, partnered with PARTEQ Innovations at Queen’s University, and created the Go Kin Project. Go Kin Packs are backpacks that hold a generator contained in its compartment. Two cables are to be attached either to the shoes of the wearer or the ankle wraps that are included with the package. It generates electricity with every step the user takes.

There is an ample amount of energy produced with such a short time of walking. Imagine, for every minute you walk, you are given the chance to use your phone for 5-7 minutes (talk-time).

The Go Kin Pack electricity generator includes two (2) USB ports in order to charge gadgets and also a power jack to charge the internal battery directly from an outlet. The whole package weighs 2.6 lb (1.2 kg) and measures 10 x 5 x 3 in (25 x 13 x 8 cm).
